“My family and I, a total of 23, rented The Lodge, The Overlook and The Blue Ridge Suite at Avon Hill 3/25-27/2022. My daughter was having her wedding that Saturday nearby and this was the perfect place that had the room for all of us to stay and socialize. Sarah was so nice and accommodating and easy to communicate with. Mark was very nice and helpful when we checked in. The place was beautiful, had good views and was well supplied. I highly recommend Avon Hill and would go back for a family reunion.”

Not many places where you can have all the wedding party, the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all together in one place. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience! “I cannot say enough about Avon Hill! It was PERFECT and exceeded all expectations! Due to the virus, my wedding was postponed three times until we finally decided to elope at our family cabin and celebrate with our closest friends and family at Avon Hill for the weekend after. We had 30 people stay and everyone had their own space at the lodge! It was extremely accommodating for our large group. The house came equipped with everything you could think of. A couple things our guests raved about were the beds (how comfortable they were), the surrounding area (how beautiful it was) and how even though there were 30 of us they each felt they had their own space to have their own little getaway. We all were extremely impressed by Avon Hill and plan to make our get together a yearly thing at Avon Hill! Highly, highly recommend!”

“Amazing is the best word to describe our experience at Avon Hill lodge. It accommodated a party of 34 and still had plenty of room. The main house is so large, we had to keep finding each other to sit together. Although it was a little wet and overcast that weekend, the view of the mountains was too beautiful to stay indoors. The drive was absolutely gorgeous and there are many vineyards near by. Our kids (14 total ranging from 1-17 years old) had a fantastic time running all over and roasting marshmallows around the fire-pit. Bruce was so helpful sending us directions to the place (it is pretty remote) and telling us about the area. We had so much fun just hanging out and reconnecting that we didn’t have enough time to venture out but hope to be able to come back in the spring or summer so we can enjoy the river too.”

“We spent this past weekend at Avon Hill with large group of girls for my sister’s bachelorette party (ages 21-26) and had a wonderful time! The house is only about 45 minutes from Charlottesville, making it easy to also visit the various wineries in the area.The Lodge is the perfect size for 18 adults and the numerous bathrooms made it easy for everyone to get ready at the same time. The large kitchen and dining room are also ideal for a big group; the back deck is perfect for enjoying some wine and watching the sun set over the mountains. We particularly enjoyed the Sirius XM radio throughout the house with adjustable volume knobs in each room! Additionally, the pool and the fire pit are great additional perks that further set this house apart from others! I cannot say enough nice things about Avon Hill! Gorgeous house, great scenery, spacious, comfortable, and tons of fun! Bruce and Ron were extremely helpful and went the extra mile - Bruce was great at answering any questions via email prior to our arrival! We had a great time and will definitely be returning to Avon Hill for another girls getaway in the future!”

““We held our family reunion at Avon in Aug 2014 and we couldn’t have asked for a better venue or host. Bruce goes out of his way to make you welcome and is ready to address any issues immediately. We had more than 20 people of all ages and the accommodations were great. The flexibility to rent multiple buildings was just what we needed and the pool was wonderful, especially for the younger set. The grounds afforded us the space to have our outdoor activities and having evening fires in the fire pit was appreciated by all, especially those who had s’mores on their menu. We look forward to having future reunions in this wonderful location.”

“Seventeen of us stayed at Avon Hill for the weekend and we couldn’t have chosen a more perfect spot. It is beautifully situated with views of the mountains. The property is well-maintained. The house is spacious and welcoming— it retains the charm of the original 18th century house while providing every modern amenity you might want. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels and thought I had a comfortable mattress myself, but I have never slept in a more comfortable bed than I did at Avon Hill (and I was just in one of the twin beds!). One of Avon Hill’s best assets is its owner, Bruce. He was extremely helpful and available whenever we needed him and just an all-around nice guy. I would recommend Avon Hill highly to anyone looking for a group getaway.”

“We had a wonderful time at Avon Hill! This is a beautiful house in a fantastic setting. Beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the wonderful fall colors. We had a large group of women celebrating a birthday, and there was plenty of room for everyone (19 adults). We had ages ranging from 31-67, and everyone had a great time! The house is well equipped to handle a large group, the kitchen is spacious and has all the needed dishes and appliances. We had a wonderful time and Bruce is a fantastic owner/host. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a get-away one of the most beautiful places in Virginia!!!”

““Thank you for very much for the wonderful stay. Our group of 18 people thoroughly enjoyed staying at the house. The sprawling yard with its Adirondack reclining chairs was a perfect place to stretch out and enjoy the warm Virginia spring sunshine. Cooking for 18 people can be quite a task, but in the large spacious kitchen there was plenty of counter space and we were able to assemble meals easily. The descriptions and photographs of the house are spot on. The owner, and the caretaker, were easily reachable, accommodating and helpful. We certainly hope to return again next year.”

“The Avon Hill Lodge was wonderful and just what we were looking for to get together with family from across the country. We had 11 adults and 3 children. The Lodge had plenty of room for all of us - and plenty of space for us to spread out. The Lodge was clean and had everything that we needed - more than we needed, actually. The accommodations were just wonderful - so much attention to detail. They had yoga mats, corn hole, darts, ping pong, board games, books, fully stocked kitchen, fire pits, beautiful deck with a lot of seating and beautiful views of the Virginia countryside…and so much more. We also used the pool and pool house. The pool is large, clean and set in a beautiful location. Sarah (owner) and Mark (property manager) were wonderful to work with, leading up to and during our stay - very attentive and responded to questions promptly. I highly recommend the Lodge at Avon Hill!”

“We celebrated my nephew’s graduation from UVA at Avon Hill Lodge. There were 11 of us staying at the lodge. The house and its surrounding area is beautiful! We enjoyed being able to spend time together but also having separate areas of the house if we wanted some time to ourselves. We really enjoyed the pool! We had a great relaxing day hanging out by the pool. If you are looking for a place for a family reunion, I highly recommend Avon Hill!”

“We had the most amazing time at Avon Hill for our micro-wedding. The property itself is incredible and our wedding and the whole weekend was a dream. The grounds are immaculately maintained, the homes are beautifully decorated and pristinely cleaned. Our group stayed in the lodge and the tenant house and we had plenty of space for privacy. The pool is beautiful and we so enjoyed spending our days swimming and playing lawn games. The hiking trails are amazing and the forest surrounding the area was awesome to explore. Everyone on the Avon Hill team was amazing, kind and responsive. Sarah helped us plan and was very communicative leading up to the event, and on the property they were quick to respond to all of our questions.”

“Situation:  a dozen-plus women looking for a getaway:  Garden club, bird-watching club, book group, knitting group, or dessert-making club, plein air painting group?  It wouldn’t have mattered.  We were at Avon Hill!  We hiked to the river, cooked lavish feasts, identified birds from our lounge chairs on the huge porch of this very sizable and super comfortable main house, danced to the wifi-inspired music, told stories around the fire pit with the stars our only eavesdroppers, slept in comfy beds, and came away with our good friendships made even better.  Just us women.( I think the cozy companion dogs were even females.)  What a time at Avon Hill! ”

“Avon Hill is a gorgeous, deluxe spot to gather with dear friends or family. Even though it was raining, we found plenty to do—as well as space to get away from everyone if we needed. Had it not been raining, I would have explored the extensive trails along the James River. I love the soapstone countertops and the fire pit, and the expansive views. I didn’t want to leave. It was a perfect weekend.”

“I spent the weekend at Avon Hill with ten friends and fell in love with the panoramic view and the wonderful house with rooms that were incredibly comfortable. If you come you must get down to the river which is a short walk away. There are paths to walk on that keep the river in view for a leisurely hike. The grounds are beautiful and the evenings on the porch are lovely with the gas fire blazing under the open sky. I recommend this  place highly for a reunion of friends for a long weekend. Shut out the world, break out the wine and doritos and enjoy this wonderful spot with friends. ”

“This is the best place to have a women’s retreat, getaway, party or escape! What a fabulous weekend we had. The beds are super comfortable, the bathrooms are spotless and the kitchen is well stocked and huge. All of us gals could be in the kitchen at the same time! It’s a great kitchen to cook and serve from or just make cocktails!  The property is calming and breathtaking. The lodge is spacious and well decorated. There is plenty of room for us to all be together or not!  I’m ready to go back; Same time, next year!”

“We recently stayed at Avon Hill Lodge for a surprise birthday weekend hosting 21 people. The house was well appointed with soft towels and sheets, plenty of room for everyone to hang out, great music system that worked for both iphones and androids (and other music players as well), and had wonderful mountain views (and parking for all our cars). It was easy to find, and, I must say, even more beautiful than the pictures. Bruce could not have been more responsive and helpful. He was superb when we were running late and needed ice and set up the fire pit for us (which was so much fun to have). He was prompt at answering all my questions via email and phone, normally with less than a day’s turnaround time and checked in to make sure everything was going well. We could not have stayed in a more ideal property, my only regret was leaving the house for a brewery tour - I wish we had just stayed and enjoyed the property. The kitchen was well stocked with plates and glasses, and that range, oh my, I wanted to take it home with me. There are lovely hiking trails to enjoy and it’s a great area if you want to go to vineyards, breweries, or enjoy nature and the fall foliage (or skiing in the winter, fishing/swimming in the summer).I would absolutely recommend staying at Avon Hill, and cannot wait to go back again.”

““We just returned from our stay with 16 adults at Avon Hill Lodge and can’t say enough great things about the property, owner and property caretaker. The bedrooms are perfectly sized and there are plenty of bathrooms for everyone. The interior rooms are large enough for the group to all be together, but there are enough rooms that you can divide up the space into game rooms, movie room, reading room, ping pong tournament like we did with our group. We took full advantage of the gourmet kitchen and the gas grill outside. The main floor is wired for satelitte radio in each room (with individual volume control) which was an added bonus. We took full advantage of the pool and pool house on the main property. From the pool (and the house for that matter) you can enjoy sprawling views of the mountains and woods - perfect for this group of city adults. In addition, you are close enough to the river for fishing or water activities, and some of our group even ventured to Charlottesville to take in the sights (about 45 minutes away.) We will definitely stay here again!”
